Power and Presence
Romans 8:9-11 (NLT) 9“But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to Him at all.) 10And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT) 19“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
We as believers in Christ have power because the Spirit of God is in us. His presence is always with us because we have His spirit inside of us. No matter where we go or what we are doing in our day to day life, the Spirit is there with us. That same Spirit inside of us raised Christ from the dead. Therefore the struggles, the weaknesses, the problems we encounter in our lives can be overcome with that same power. Christ’s body was weakened through beating, crucifixion, and the weight of the sin of the world to then show His power when he was resurrected from the grave. His power continues to be proven as our weaknesses are overcome. We cannot do it on our own- many of us know that or feel that but often still carry or hold on to our weaknesses. Christ’s power though is made perfect in our weakness. It is like many things in the Kingdom- the inverse of what the natural mind thinks or what makes sense. Power and weakness are opposites but in the Kingdom of God, our weakness allows Christ’s power to be perfected. In the natural, we want to hide our weaknesses or faults. On the contrary, Paul states in 2 Corinthians 12 that he boasts about his weaknesses so Christ’s power can reside inside and work through him. He also states when he is weak then he is strong. This makes no earthly sense because weakness is just weakness to the world. When we are Kingdom minded, this makes sense and we can focus on Christ’s power inside of us to overcome our weaknesses. While we fast, we weaken our physical bodies and focus on prayer. During this time of physical weakness, the Spirit can reveal to us weaknesses, issues, struggles or problems He wants to overcome and replace them with His power in our lives.
Think About It:
- Do you really believe the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives inside you? Why or why not?
- Meditate on 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (CSB) 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. 10So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
- What weaknesses have been highlighted to you in this time of fasting? Pray over those things and allow His power to reside in you and overcome those weaknesses. Seek God to help you walk boldly in His power. Praise Him for his greatness and power.
